Carla Anthony is passionate about contributing to the success of organizations through her work in human resources. Over the last 25 years, Carla has led HR organizations in various industries such as municipal and state government in Colorado and in the private sector with Western Union, UDR, Denver Public Schools and with Gambro/Baxter Healthcare.

Carla is an expert at leading large organizations through organizational change initiatives. She has worked on teams leading mergers, acquisitions and integrations from a human and business perspective. During her tenure in HR she has built, turned around and re-organized multiple global and regional business units and HR functions.

Education

Carla holds an MBA from San Diego State University and a BSBA from Kent State University.

Helping Students be Successful

Carla hopes that through teaching, she can share her HR knowledge with others in a way that is motivating and engaging. She enjoys seeing her students learn and become more expert in the courses she teaches and, most importantly, apply their learnings to their professional success. As an educator who cares about her students’ success, Carla is always available to assist them in any way that she can with their job search, workplace challenges, and career development.

Debora (Debbie) Bartoo, Ph.D., holds the position of Educational Engagement Manager with Glenbrook, focusing on the payment industry. She has held several senior-level positions, including Senior Vice President in Digital Payments at Bank of America. Her career roles included innovation, competitive intelligence, product development, and analytics at various organizations. She has been an adjunct professor since 2014 teaching business and marketing strategy, innovation, values-based decision-making, and the Capstone.

Education

Debora earned her Ph.D. in Leadership & Change from Antioch University, her Master of Science in Business Intelligence & Analytics from St. Joseph’s University, Haub School of Business, and her Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Bio

Shaniquè Broom is an educator, curriculum and learning design specialist, and scholar with over a decade of experience in higher education. She has worked across academic and professional education settings to support faculty, staff, and institutions in designing learning experiences that are inclusive, rigorous, and grounded in justice.

Shaniquè’s professional work centers on equitable learning design, inclusive pedagogy, and the translation of theory into practice. She has collaborated with faculty and academic teams across the country to redesign courses, programs, and curricula with attention to access, power, and student experience. Her research and professional practice are deeply informed by critical pedagogical traditions, including the work of Paulo Freire and bell hooks, and by her scholarship on the experiences of Black women navigating systems of racism and sexism in professional environments.

Shaniquè holds a B.A. in Psychology from Central Michigan University, an M.A. in Higher Education from Central Michigan University; a certificate of college teaching from Central Michigan University and a Ph.D. in Higher Education with a concentration in race and ethnicity from the University of Denver.

At the College of Professional Studies, Shaniquè brings a reflective, student-centered teaching approach that emphasizes critical inquiry, applied learning, and thoughtful engagement with real-world contexts. Her courses are intentionally structured to scaffold learning, invite multiple perspectives, and support students in developing practical tools they can carry into their professional and civic lives.

Mark Cicotello is an experienced human resources professional and an adjunct instructor in the University of Denver’s graduate programs, where he teaches courses in finance and compensation. His work focuses on total rewards, executive compensation, organizational performance, and the strategic alignment of human resources within complex business environments. In addition to his academic role, Mark serves as a consultant and advisor with the New Zealand Trade & Enterprise Beachheads Program. He provides strategic human resources and legal guidance to New Zealand companies seeking to establish or expand their operations in the United States.

Professional Background

Mark previously held senior HR leadership positions across several industries. His past roles include Vice President of Human Resources at Heska Corporation, HR Director of International Operations at Monsanto/Searle, and multiple HR leadership positions at Hewlett-Packard/Digital Equipment Corporation. He also served as an HR consultant with Employers Council, advising public and private employers on HR strategy, compensation, performance management, international HR, and ethics.

Mark holds an MBA from the University of Colorado, and a B.A. in Psychology from Slippery Rock University. He also is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)and a Certified Executive Compensation Professional (CECP).

Gint Baukus is a Senior Director at A&M, LLC in Denver, Colorado specializing in human capital practices, processes, and strategies. With over 25 years of domestic and international experience, Gint consults organizations on matters relating to HR transformation, talent management, HR strategy, functional operations and administration, compliance, leadership development, organization effectiveness, culture & employee engagement, and performance management.

Gint has worked with a variety of organization types including Fortune 100, public and private, PE backed, and mission based NGO’s. In addition to holding senior level HR roles, Gint has also served as the CHRO for a globally public traded company. With his extensive experience in Human Resources, Gint engages students in lively discussions relating to current topics in the field and pragmatically relates their course learnings to real life, professional applications.

Gint earned his B.S. in Psychology and his M.S. in Human Resources Management from Loyola University of Chicago.

Tami Colver has been a leader in human resources for over 15 years and has a total of 27 years in the field. She has worked in various industries, in large, mid, and start-up sized companies, has global experience, and has held almost every position within the field.

Education

Tami earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from George Mason University and her Master of Arts in Education from the University of Northern Colorado.

Professional Background

Tami currently serves as Chief People Officer for MedZed, where she oversees all aspects of Human Capital and manages a talented group of HR professionals across the United States. Tami is also a co-chair for an HRO group for TT Capital Investors. Tami leads discussions and strategy within a group of human resource executives.

Motivation for Teaching

Tami took a hiatus from human resources to pursue teaching for four years. Her stint in the educational realm allowed her to realize that she can combine her passion for teaching with her wealth of knowledge in the human resources field. This led her to pursue teaching at DU so she can pass her knowledge on to HR professionals.

Helping Students Be Successful

Tami teaches her students with real-life examples and hands-on exercises. She is readily available via email and virtual office hours to answer questions, provide guidance, and offer insights from her many years in the human resources field.

Carla Elam-Floyd is a human resources professional with over 30 years’ of experience in managing and directing human resources functions and organizational analyses. She has a comprehensive understanding of employee engagement, employee relations, diversity, inclusion and equity strategies, human resource management strategies, and assessing the needs of work groups to make them more effective.

Education

Carla earned a dual Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Colorado in Boulder. She later earned her MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Professional Background

Carla began her career as an internal auditor for Atlantic Richfield, the United Banks of Colorado, and the Regional Transportation District. In that role she earned certifications as an Internal Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner. Carla is currently a Human Resources consultant for Kaiser Permanente where she supports the human resources management efforts of Kaiser’s leaders. She previously worked as an independent consultant for clients including Jefferson County, Colorado Springs Utilities, and the City of Colorado Springs. Prior to that, Carla served as the director of Human Resources for Denver Water, Director of Human Resources and Administration for the Colorado Department of Transportation, and the Manager of Human Resources Support Services for the Regional Transportation District.

In each of her HR leadership roles, Carla developed and led programs that addressed the health and wellness of the workforce, professional development programs, and diversity and inclusion initiatives. She has been recognized for her efforts by organizations such as the Urban Spectrum, which presented her with the African Americans Who Make a Difference award. She served for nine years, with four as chair, on the board of the Denver Health Medical Program. She is currently serving as the chair of the board for the Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center.

Motivation for Teaching

Carla’s drive for teaching comes from her own experiences as a lifelong learner at every layer of organizations that taught her skills related to human interactions and what leads to team success. She understands that the lessons we learn in the classroom are made more relevant when we can relate them to the reality of everyday experiences in the workplace. She genuinely loves the interaction with students from other generations and cultures and believes that we all have something to learn from one another. Carla’s experiences in the public, private and nonprofit industries have given her perspectives on how those worlds differ, and how they are very similar when it comes to human resources management and ethical approaches to accomplishing our jobs.

Carla’s approach to student success entails relating concepts to real world experiences and helping students to assess their own experiences in light of the lessons studied. She is available through email and welcomes text messages from her students when they have questions or need anything to be clarified.

Jennifer Fairweather is currently the Chief Human Resources Officer for Jefferson County, Colorado, and a Founding Partner of Dwennimmen Leadership Consulting.

Jennifer has over 25 years of experience in both public sector and private sector human resources in addition to leadership experience in finance and human services. She has her IPMA-SCP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, a Certificate in Professional Training, and she is a Certified Executive Coach (CEC). Jennifer has facilitated sessions for local and national forums on leadership, human resources, and diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.

Jennifer is a Past National President of the Public Sector HR Association (PSHRA), serves on the board of the Second Chance Center, and is a working group member for the Society for Women’s Health Research.

Jennifer holds a D.B.A. in Organization Development from Johnson & Wales University, a M.S. in Human Resources Development from Webster University, and a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Colorado.

Annie Foley is a highly accomplished people operations executive with a proven track record of scaling and modernizing HR processes for high-growth companies.

Professional Background

With extensive experience in strategic human resources that focuses on efficiency and optimization, Annie has successfully trained and coached People Ops teams to adapt to organizational growth and enhance overall workforce performance. Throughout her career, Annie has demonstrated her expertise in creating inclusive and equitable programs related to onboarding, mentorship, succession planning, benefits planning and administration, compensation management, and leadership development.

Annie has a deep understanding of HR systems and technologies, having selected and implemented complete HRIS, modernized performance review processes, and managed immigration processes. Her ability to identify operational inefficiencies often results in substantial cost savings for organizations.

Kate Frazier is a senior professional human resources and SHRM Senior Certified Professional. She brings 30 years of experience in human resources, leadership development, and team effectiveness to her role as an instructor at the University of Denver. As the founder and principal consultant at Resolve Resources Management, she works with leaders and organizations to build more collaborative, productive teams and organizations. Her experience includes internal senior roles in HR and talent development, where she supported both strategic initiatives and the day-to-day challenges of developing people and managing change. Her teaching is grounded in real-world experience and a passion for helping HR professionals apply practical tools to lead with clarity and confidence.
