Carla Anthony is passionate about contributing to the success of organizations through her work in human resources. Over the last 25 years, Carla has led HR organizations in various industries such as municipal and state government in Colorado and in the private sector with Western Union, UDR, Denver Public Schools and with Gambro/Baxter Healthcare.

Carla is an expert at leading large organizations through organizational change initiatives. She has worked on teams leading mergers, acquisitions and integrations from a human and business perspective. During her tenure in HR she has built, turned around and re-organized multiple global and regional business units and HR functions.

Carla holds an MBA from San Diego State University and a BSBA from Kent State University.

Shaniquè Broom is an educator, curriculum and learning design specialist, and scholar with over a decade of experience in higher education. She has worked across academic and professional education settings to support faculty, staff, and institutions in designing learning experiences that are inclusive, rigorous, and grounded in justice.

Shaniquè’s professional work centers on equitable learning design, inclusive pedagogy, and the translation of theory into practice. She has collaborated with faculty and academic teams across the country to redesign courses, programs, and curricula with attention to access, power, and student experience. Her research and professional practice are deeply informed by critical pedagogical traditions, including the work of Paulo Freire and bell hooks, and by her scholarship on the experiences of Black women navigating systems of racism and sexism in professional environments.

Education

Shaniquè holds a B.A. in Psychology from Central Michigan University, an M.A. in Higher Education from Central Michigan University; a certificate of college teaching from Central Michigan University and a Ph.D. in Higher Education with a concentration in race and ethnicity from the University of Denver.

Tami earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from George Mason University and her Master of Arts in Education from the University of Northern Colorado.

Professional Background

Tami currently serves as Chief People Officer for MedZed, where she oversees all aspects of Human Capital and manages a talented group of HR professionals across the United States. Tami is also a co-chair for an HRO group for TT Capital Investors. Tami leads discussions and strategy within a group of human resource executives.

Motivation for Teaching

Tami took a hiatus from human resources to pursue teaching for four years. Carla earned a dual Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Colorado in Boulder. She later earned her MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Professional Background

Carla began her career as an internal auditor for Atlantic Richfield, the United Banks of Colorado, and the Regional Transportation District. In that role she earned certifications as an Internal Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner. Carla is currently a Human Resources consultant for Kaiser Permanente where she supports the human resources management efforts of Kaiser’s leaders. She previously worked as an independent consultant for clients including Jefferson County, Colorado Springs Utilities, and the City of Colorado Springs. Prior to that, Carla served as the director of Human Resources for Denver Water, Director of Human Resources and Administration for the Colorado Department of Transportation, and the Manager of Human Resources Support Services for the Regional Transportation District.

In each of her HR leadership roles, Carla developed and led programs that addressed the health and wellness of the workforce, professional development programs, and diversity and inclusion initiatives. She has been recognized for her efforts by organizations such as the Urban Spectrum, which presented her with the African Americans Who Make a Difference award. She served for nine years, with four as chair, on the board of the Denver Health Medical Program. She is currently serving as the chair of the board for the Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center.

Motivation for Teaching

Carla’s drive for teaching comes from her own experiences as a lifelong learner at every layer of organizations that taught her skills related to human interactions and what leads to team success. She understands that the lessons we learn in the classroom are made more relevant when we can relate them to the reality of everyday experiences in the workplace. She genuinely loves the interaction with students from other generations and cultures and believes that we all have something to learn from one another. Carla’s experiences in the public, private and nonprofit industries have given her perspectives on how those worlds differ, and how they are very similar when it comes to human resources management and ethical approaches to accomplishing our jobs.
